Amid Covid curbs, city schools set to hold online exams | Patna News

PATNA: As the state government prolongs Covid restrictions and uncertainties about reopening educational institutions even in February, several schools across the city have begun preparing to hold annual online exams.
School authorities have said they will switch to online exams if restrictions are further extended due to the Covid pandemic. Most schools in the city hold final exams in February and start the new academic session in April.
Father Christu Savarirajan SJ, principal of St Xavier’s High School, said the school administration had made all the necessary arrangements to hold online exams. “We are still hoping that schools will reopen before the start of final exams. However, if the need arises, we are ready to organize online exams,” he added.
St Karen’s High School principal, Seema Singh, said the school would hold exams in virtual mode for grades up to IX and XI using its own software. “Teachers will upload the quiz to the software and the link will be sent to students at some point. Students will have to answer both objective and subjective questions within a limited time. For the subjective, they will have to answer in their copies and upload the image on the link,” she said.
Singh added that monitoring students during online exams is quite difficult even if the cameras are on as there is always a blind spot which cannot be monitored. “There are limits to online exams, but something is better than nothing,” she said.
Ashfaque Iqbal, assistant principal at Bishop Scott Boy’s School, said the school was ready for the annual online and offline exams. “Teachers have completed the programs and started taking review courses. We are awaiting further guidance from the government before taking a call on final exams. Offline mode is always a better option. However, we are also ready to organize online exams,” he said.
Mary Alphonsa, director of the Don Bosco Academy, said: “There is still time for the annual exams and we are awaiting the government’s decision. If Covid restrictions are further extended, we will have no choice but to hold online exams. »
