As Mumbai plans to reopen schools from October 4, students attending offline classes will again have to revise the curriculum taught online in offline mode. The decision was made as part of SOPs issued by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. Schools will be open under strict COVID restrictions for grades 8 to 12. Students in junior grades will be allowed to attend physical classes from November.

Due to the learning gaps, teachers were asked to review the completed curriculum online and to establish an academic plan by assessing students’ level of understanding. In addition, each week, each teacher will hold an online meeting with parents to inform them of the topics being taught in class.

The duration of the lessons will not exceed 3-4 hours, in case of more students wishing to attend the physical lessons, 50% of the strength will be called on the alternate days. 100% attendance rewards were also removed this year. On the contrary, attending classes is not compulsory and was left with the consent of the parents. No student will be allowed to enter school without parental consent.

School management committees were only asked to reopen schools after discussing detailed plans with the parent-teacher association (PTA). Management was urged to link schools to the nearest primary health centers to ensure the availability of health facilities in times of crisis.

Before starting schools, all teachers and non-teaching staff in the school should be immunized. An unvaccinated person will be asked to produce an RTPCR test report that is less than 48 hours old.

High-risk staff, including older people, women with disabilities, pregnant women and those undergoing medical treatment, were asked not to come into direct contact with students.

School principals should mark separate entrances and exits for children and staff. No one will be allowed inside the campus other than teachers, staff and students.

In the event of even a single case of COVID-19 at school, the campus will be closed immediately and disinfected.

AC temperatures should be kept at 24 degrees if used in serious need. There will be no gatherings inside the campus, including assembly, training, etc. Even inside classrooms, schools were also urged not to use air conditioning installations and to open windows and doors for air circulation.
