Parkland School District Human Resources Director Pamela Kelly introduced 86 new teachers to the board via a virtual format due to COVID-19 precautions.
The group of new employees covers the school years 2020-21 and 2021-22.
Kelly thanked the board for providing the support and resources that allow Parkland to attract top talent through the school district’s high reputation.
She said more than 500 applications had been received from prospective teachers and 400 interviews had been conducted by administrative staff.
The new professional hires are graduates of 34 different colleges and represent 26 disciplines in the district.
Forty percent have already obtained higher degrees.
Kelly said the new staff have had a wide range of experiences and have come to the district from many different places.
Some of them graduated from Parkland High School.
The new staff includes teachers, administrators and people who fill vacancies to cover time off for those who are temporarily absent due to personal demands.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Madson commented on the new hires.
âWe are delighted that these people have decided to join us in the Parkland family,â said Madson.
