IIT Kharagpur Offers Free Online Blockchain Course Anyone Can Apply

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kharagpur offers a free 12-week online course in blockchain technology and its application. The AICTE-approved course will offer an introduction to the basic design principle of blockchain technology across all industries. Professor Shamik Sural and Professor Sandip Chakraborty will lead this online course. Interested candidates can register for the program on the NPTEL portal before the last application submission date, January 31, 2022.

Although the online course is free for registration, students who wish to earn a certificate will need to take a proctored exam. Students will be required to take the exam in person at one of the designated exam centers. The exam is optional with a fee of Rs 1000. Candidates will have to pay the exam fee when registering for the course.

To be eligible for the course certificate, applicants must achieve at least 10 out of 25 average homework scores. In addition, they must also achieve at least 30 out of 75 marks on the proctored certification exam. If any of these criteria is not met, candidates will not be awarded the certificate even if the final mark is 40 out of 100 points.

Applicants will only receive an electronic copy of their certificate which can be verified at nptel.ac.in.

To take this online course in blockchain technology, knowledge of computer networks, operating systems, cryptography, and network security is a prerequisite. The course has been designed to serve as an introduction to blockchain and aims to serve undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as industry associates.
