New Director of Special Education Announced at West Genesee – Eagle News Online

Darlene Grome has been appointed by the West Genesee Board of Education to the position of Director of Special Education effective July 1, 2022. She will fill the position left vacant by the retirement of Susan Murray at the end of this school year. .
She is currently the Assistant Director of Education at West Genesee. A seasoned educator and leader, Grome has dedicated 23 years to education in a variety of roles.
Prior to joining the West Genesee team, she served as Deputy Director of Special Education, CSE/CPSE Chair, Deputy Principal, Elementary School Teacher and Special Education Teacher. She was previously an admissions counselor at SU and held numerous positions in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Grome holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from SUNY Fredonia, a Master of Science in Elementary Education from Syracuse University, a Master of Science in Special Education from Syracuse University, and a SUNY Cortland Advanced Certificate in Instructional Leadership.
His areas of certification are NYS Special Education, NYS Elementary Education, School Building Leader, and School District Leader. She also completed the NYS Superintendent Development Program.
Superintendent David C. Bills shared, “Throughout the process, Darlene’s experience, enthusiasm, passion, and strong advocate for student and staff support were repeatedly noted in her work. . She included ideas for future growth and initiative in the complex process of special education. His communication and collaboration will continue to be an asset in this new role.
On a personal note, she is a mother of three children. Two of her children are currently serving in the military while her third is attending college. She enjoys traveling to visit her children and spend time with family and friends. She is thrilled with this opportunity and looks forward to continuing her work with students, families and staff at West Genesee.
