Changes are coming to the Eating Disorders Program at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The university says changes are coming, but it has not confirmed that the program is being shut down. that I won’t be able to be here to raise my children, because if I relapse, I no longer have those resources. And it’s sad because I’m not just the only person struggling with it,” former patient Lexie Olgren said. Olgren says if the facility closes, patients will have to travel to Minnesota, Colorado or even further afield for treatment. And it could be especially dangerous if they can’t afford the travel costs.

IOWA CITY, Iowa —

Changes are coming to the Eating Disorders Program at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

A petition on Change.org, titled “Save the Eating Disorder Program and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics,” claims the program is being phased out.

The university says changes are coming, but it has not confirmed the program will be closed.

A woman who has used the program is concerned because the University of Iowa program is the only inpatient eating disorder treatment facility in Iowa.

“I’m scared for my life, scared that I can’t be here to raise my kids, because if I relapse, I don’t have those resources anymore. And it’s sad because I’m not just the only person out there who’s struggling with it,” former patient Lexie Olgren said.

Olgren says if the facility closes, patients will have to travel to Minnesota, Colorado or even further afield for treatment.

And that could be especially dangerous if they can’t afford the travel expenses.
