Shocking moment a high school teacher slaps a student in the face
An Indiana teacher has been captured on school surveillance footage chasing a student and slapping him in the face for wearing a hoodie in class.
Mike Hosinski, a civics teacher at Jimtown High School, was allowed to retire early with his full pension after the video emerged. It is unclear whether he will face criminal charges.
Surveillance footage from school hallways on Friday shows Hosinski confronting the student for wearing the hoodie – which is not allowed at school.
The video shows the student, who has not been named, running down the hall until Hosinski caught up with them.
The teacher then grabs them, rotating the child so they are facing each other, before slapping them so hard they hit the wall behind them.
As the teacher tries to drag the student down the hall, the student trips and falls to the floor.
Baugo Community School Superintendent Byron Sanders said the student suffered visible injuries and was treated by medical personnel.
Meanwhile, there has been an outpouring of support for teachers from parents, students and staff.

It was initially reported that Hosinski had been fired and banned from school grounds, but on Monday the Baugo Community School Board clarified that it had allowed Hosinski to take early retirement and retain his full pension, reported WNDU.
Parents were invited to attend the meeting and voice their concerns after seeing the video released on Friday.
Earlier in the day, students staged a school strike in support of the teacher who many described as “laid back”.
No parent has spoken out publicly against Hosinski, WNDU reported.
“I still support Mike Hosinski,” a parent said hours after the video was released.
Hosinski had been a teacher for 40 years and named Jimtown Teacher of the Year in 2020, according to WNDU.

The incident happened Friday at Jimtown High School in Indiana
According to Indiana Code 20-33-8-9: Disciplinary Powers of Teachers and School Personnel, it states that “an individual may take any action reasonably necessary to carry out or prevent interference with a educational function that the individual supervises. .’
“Any action that threatens to harm a student will be dealt with quickly, directly and harshly. All Jimmies should be able to learn in a safe environment,” the superintendent said in a statement.
Administrators have contacted the Indiana Department of Children’s Services and the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office and both agencies are investigating the incident.
Local South Bend attorney Peter Agostino, who is not connected to the case, told WNDU it’s possible Hosinski could face criminal charges.
“It’s probably going to the battery that’s in consensual contact,” he said. “Depending on that, the extent of the conduct, its aggressiveness, could be considered another attempt to inflict bodily harm.”
School officials also reported the incident to the Indiana Department of Education.
