Valle Wins Class 3 District Crown | Volleyball

PARK HILLS – The Valle Catholic Volleyball program rose to the challenge of competing with even bigger schools this playoffs and responded by winning the Class 3, District 2 championship on its first attempt.

Ella Bertram notched her 12th kill and second of the final rotation on match point, and the Lady Warriors came out of a fierce final to defeat Ste. Geneviève 25-19, 25-16, 27-25 Tuesday evening.

Valle Catholic (29-4-3), last year’s Class 2 finalist, will travel Thursday at 6:30 p.m. to face Notre-Dame in the Sectional Round of Class 3

Ste. Genevieve (18-10-1) was outnumbered by the Lady Warriors three times over a span of 17 days, but delivered a fiery defensive challenge streak until the conclusion.

The Dragons trailed in Game 3 12-6 after relinquishing the first of two aces to Makayla Joggerst, but increased their momentum to tie Valle in three long rallies down the home stretch.

Arie Taylor served up an ace, and senior midfielder Abby Moore unleashed one of her 11 kills in her last varsity contest to line up the final stanza at 15-15.

Ste. Genevieve moved forward when outside forward Tessa Grass connected, and established a 21-18 advantage when Valle suffered a lifting violation and ensuing typing error.
