E-learning tools implemented in local schools during the pandemic have remained in place. Zoom and other technologies are now a daily tool for teachers and students.

The pandemic has even taught educators to be more innovative. WINK News spoke with Glades County Schools Superintendent Dr Beth Barfield and she says if there is something good that came out of lockdown during COVID-19, it’s the role that technology is now playing a role in the education of students.

Tools like Google Meets, Google Classroom, and Zoom have ensured that learning never stops during the pandemic.

The Lee Virtual and Charlotte Virtual programs have been around for some time, but the number of students enrolled in these programs is now more than ever.

Barfield says it has shown teachers that there are many different ways to educate children. “It helped us push ourselves where we went off the beaten track. And we started using these different learning platforms, virtually, which allowed our students to have connectivity with their teachers, and that their education just because the school was not a session school. continued to progress.

Virtual programs that Southwest Florida school districts use help both students and teachers, and give students the ability to connect with teachers and even get extra help with homework through Zoom. .

Glades County Schools Superintendent Barfield said many teachers were not familiar with these programs at first, but they are now essential to the education of students.

“We learned and we stepped out of our comfort zone. And educators have a wonderful way of always doing what’s best for kids, is that we always want to do what’s best for kids. And we in Glades County didn’t want our students to stop, ”Barfield said.

Barfield also said virtual learning programs have been helpful during the teacher shortage that Glades County schools have experienced.

Glades County Schools will soon be launching a program similar to Lee Connect where students can get help with homework via zoom.
